This Privacy Policy explains how ShowMyRates ("ShowMyRates," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you visit showmyrates.com or use our services. ShowMyRates is a comparison and marketing service that helps consumers request car insurance quotes from third-party insurance companies, agencies, and their representatives ("insurance partners"). We also provide an optional account where users can organize limited information about current auto and home policies. We are not an insurance company, agency, or advisor. By using our site, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Account and policy-organizer information. If you create a member account, we collect your email address and the policy details you choose to enter, such as policy type, insurance company, a private nickname, and effective and term-end dates. The current organizer does not ask for or store a full policy number or policy document. Details you enter are labeled as user-provided and are not treated as verified coverage information.
Authentication and security information. We use one-time email codes to verify account access. We store only protected hashes of login codes and account-session tokens, along with expiration, use, and revocation timestamps. We also use protected IP- and email-based rate-limit identifiers to prevent abuse. We do not store the one-time code or raw session token in our database.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide. When you request quotes through our forms, we collect the information you enter, which may include your name, phone number, email address, ZIP code and address, date of birth, and details about your insurance profile, such as your vehicle, current insurance status, driving history, and the coverage you are looking for. You are never required to submit a form to browse our site.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we and our service providers automatically collect usage information when you visit, such as IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, referring pages, and interactions with our forms. We may collect this through cookies and similar technologies. When Google Analytics is configured on the site, it may set cookies and process usage information subject to Google's own privacy terms. The analytics script is not loaded when that service is not configured.
Quote-form progress. Before you submit contact information, we may keep a limited progress record so the form can resume. That record includes the step reached and non-contact selections such as ZIP, vehicle and coverage details. It does not include your name, date of birth, street address, email, phone number or driving-history answers. The browser copy expires after seven days. Unsubmitted server-side progress records are deleted after 90 days. When a request is completed, the pre-submission answer record is cleared and the submitted request is handled under the retention terms below.
Address suggestions. When Google-powered address suggestions are configured and you use them, the address text you type is processed by Google Maps Platform so matching places can be displayed. Selecting a suggestion fills the protected address fields; those values stay in locked fields until you submit and are not sent through chat. You can always enter the address manually instead. Google's processing is subject to its Privacy Policy and the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Matching you with insurance partners. The core purpose of our service: when you submit a quote request, we use the information you provide to match you with insurance partners who can quote coverage for your profile, and, with the consent you give at form submission, we share that information with the matched partners so they can contact you and deliver quotes.
- Operating the service. To run, maintain, secure, and improve our website, forms, and optional member area; display policy-organizer details back to the account owner; respond to requests; and prevent fraud and abuse.
- Analytics and advertising. To understand how visitors use our site and to measure and improve our marketing, including through the analytics and advertising technologies described above.
- Legal compliance. To comply with applicable law and enforce our Terms of Use.
Saving information in the policy organizer does not by itself submit a quote request or authorize us to share that information with insurance partners. A quote request follows its own submission and consent flow.
3. How We Share Information
- Matched insurance partners. When you submit a quote request and provide consent, we share your submitted information with the insurance companies, agencies, and representatives matched to your request so they can contact you with quotes. Once shared, their use of your information is governed by their own privacy policies.
- Service providers. Vendors that help us operate, such as hosting, analytics, form processing, address suggestions, communications, and lead-verification providers, under obligations to use the information only to provide services to us.
- Legal and safety. When required by law, legal process, or government request, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety, or the integrity of our service, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
4. Consent to Be Contacted (TCPA Notice)
When you submit a quote request form on our site, you provide your prior express written consent for the insurance partners matched to your request (and parties calling on their behalf) to contact you about insurance quotes and related offers at the phone number and email address you provided, including by phone call, text message, and email, and including through automated technology or prerecorded messages where permitted. Consent is not a condition of purchasing any goods or services, and message and data rates may apply. You can decline to submit a form and still browse our site, and you can revoke consent with any individual partner by following their opt-out instructions or telling them directly.
5. Your Choices
- Email opt-out. You can opt out of marketing emails from us at any time using the unsubscribe link in any message or by emailing support@showmyrates.com.
- Account access and deletion. You may ask us to close your member account and delete its policy-organizer records by emailing support@showmyrates.com. Submitted quote-request and consent records may be retained separately where reasonably necessary for compliance, partner reconciliation, fraud prevention, or dispute resolution.
- Do not sell or share my personal information. Sharing your information with matched insurance partners in exchange for compensation may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under some state privacy laws. To request that we not sell or share your personal information, email support@showmyrates.com with the subject line "Do Not Sell or Share."
- Cookies and advertising controls. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in settings. If Google Analytics is enabled, Google also provides browser and account controls for limiting analytics and advertising data use.
6. State Privacy Rights
If you live in California or another state with a comprehensive consumer privacy law, you may have rights that include: knowing what personal information we collect and how we use and share it; requesting access to or a copy of your personal information; requesting correction or deletion; opting out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising; and not receiving discriminatory treatment for exercising these rights. To exercise any of these rights, email support@showmyrates.com. We will verify your request as required by applicable law and respond within the timeframe the law provides. You may also use an authorized agent where permitted.
7. Data Retention & Security
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including account operation, matching submitted requests with partners, recordkeeping, compliance, and dispute resolution, and then delete or de-identify it. Account sessions expire and can be revoked; one-time login codes expire after a short period. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children
Our services are intended for adults and are not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us information, contact us at support@showmyrates.com and we will delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be posted on this page, and your continued use of the site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
